Research
Setting The Foundation
The beginning stages of research aimed to better understand what common issues arose for dog owners & how we could proactively bridge the gap between comfortability and fulfilling experiences- for both pets & their owners.
Survey
The initial stage of research involved a simple, 6 question survey that was aimed towards gathering a basic framework of our target users.
These questions included insights such as a common user’s age, the type of pet they have, the frequency of outings, and their satisfaction of these outings.
Insights
Apart from survey data, we also utilized interview data, gathered from six interviewees & their various dog breeds. This data allowed us to dive into the various issues that dog owners may face in public settings, as well as the different directions would could potentially take the solutions that the app could offer.
Competitor Analysis
Completing a competitor analysis helped to highlight various strengths and weaknesses of similar apps. This showed us where our design idea could stand out- as well as being aware of what should not be implemented.
Design Process
User Persona
Once we had a general understanding of our target user audience, we were then able to create a user persona based upon our findings. This persona further emphasized what a dog owner might experience, not only helping with our user relations, but the further development of our app.
User Journey
Along with the user persona, a user journey map was created to show the flow of our potential user’s emotional process and decisions made along the way, again, directing the user towards a solution that would be found within using our app design.
Style Guide
To get a feel of our app’s potential interface design, we created a style guide, fleshing out various colors, fonts and simple button patterns to visualize would look best. Eventually, we decided upon an earth-tone centered palette, with pops of color to engage the user. We also incorporated a paw into our product name.
End Result
Wireframes
The final part of the project included both low and high fidelity wireframes.
The low fidelity wireframes expressed our most basic design ideas in a way that was digestible and easy to modify, whereas the high fidelity wireframes included our style guide choices and our overall user flow when using the app.
